To Estimate the Amount of Concrete Needed

1. Compute the area you will cover.

Length in Feet x Width in Feet = Area in Square Feet

2. RECTANGLES
Step One: Multiply the Length times the Width (L x W) to find the square fottage of the pour.
Example: 15 feet long by 8 feet wide. 8 x 15 = 120 square feet

Step Two: Divide the square footage by the "x" factor from the 320 chart below:
Example: The form is 4" deep. 120 (square footage) ÷ 80 = 1.5 yards of concrete.

320 is the magic number. 320 divided by any depth (in inches) will give you an "x" factor to divide into your square footage.
Example: The form is 120 suare feet and is 4 feet deep. Four feet is 48". 320 ÷ 48 = 6.7 as your factor.
120 ÷ 6.7 = 17.9 yards of concrete needed.
  Helpful Hint
If you have a drawing of an irregular shape, simply break it down into sections that are rectangles and easy to figure. Figure each separately and add each of the square footages together. Also, remember that triangles in most cases are simply one half of a rectangle.
  CIRCLES
Step One: Multiply the radius (1/2 of distance across the circle) squared by pi (3.14) to find the square footage.
Example: If you have an 8 foot circle then the radius is 4 feet. 4 x 4 x 3.14 = 50.24 square feet.
Step Two: Divide the square footage by the "x" factor from the 320 chart.
Example: The form is 6" deep. 50.24 (square footage) ÷ 53 = .95 yards of concrete.
**NOTE: Always order the next larger amount due to shortage on depth.
3. You may also just divide your total area by 80 sq. ft. and get the exact number of yards that you need.)
4. Finally, make a list or people who'll help you, and then make a list of all the food and drink you'll need to make sure that your help is well rewarded.
